Day 1: Luang Prabang - Vang Vieng

This morning you'll be picked up at your hotel by a driver and will be taken to the Luang Prabang bus station where you'll board a VIP public bus to Vang Vieng. Be sure to bring along some food and drinks for during the road trip; the drive should take approximately 7 hours. You'll drive through dense jungle and you'll pass high mountain passes. We found this part of Laos to be the most breathtaking. The views of the green valley were spectacular.

On arrival at the Vang Vieng bus station, you'll arrange your own transportation to your hotel which is beautifully located on the banks of the river. You'll spend 2 nights in a cosy, spacious bungalow. This evening you'll be able to enjoy a delicious meal and a cold drink while watching the sun slowly set behind the mountains.

Day 2: Vang Vieng

Start the day with a typical Laotian breakfast; French bread and a latte. Vang Vieng, is located on the banks of the Nam Song River and is hidden between immense green hill tops, giving the look and feel of an idyllic country town. We enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere here in the countryside and we also enjoyed the impressive views of the surrounding limestone formations.

Vang Vieng offers many exciting outdoor activities for the active traveller such as kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, swimming in caves and hiking. However there's also plenty to do for those who would like to 'Bo Pein Nhang', or 'take it easy'. We went tubing down the river and stopped at quite a few terraces along the banks of the river along the way. At night you'll find a cosy atmosphere and friendly people in the many restaurants and bars in the main street. Have a seat with a good drink and chat with fellow travellers or watch a movie being projected on a screen. You'll feel as if you've just parked at a drive-in cinema.

Day 3: Vang Vieng - Vientiane

Sometime in the morning you'll be picked up and will be taken to the Vang Vieng bus station just outside of the city centre. Here you'll board a VIP public bus to Vientiane. While travelling along the winding mountain roads we couldn't believe the view from the windows of our bus. You won't know where to look. While driving through small villages you'll see Laotian women hanging their laundry to dry and you'll see smiling children waving and running after the bus. This is the real Laos.

This module ends on arrival at Vientiane so please make your own way to your hotel. You can continue on your trip through Laos with the module Vive Vientiane.
